Charlton Athletic are ready to make a move for Daniel Barlaser in the summer, as reported by The Daily Mail.
What’s the story
The 22-year-old’s future at Newcastle United is currently in uncertain territory, with his contract coming to an end in the summer and no discussions having been had about sorting the situation.
This has put various teams on alert, including Rotherham United, where he has been spending this season on loan. He was referred to as the team’s “quarterback” by manager Paul Warne.
Charlton are among the other clubs also showing interest, with further members of the admiring crowd including Hull City, Brentford and Wigan Athletic.
The Addicks will be hoping that they are able to get in ahead of the competition, should Newcastle’s indecisiveness come to cost them.

Following Conor Gallagher’s departure from the club, which led to the frustration of fans, Charlton could have a void in their midfield that cannot be filled by an attacking player such as Marcus Maddison.
Despite being required to wait until the summer to sign him, this could be the closest Charlton get to replacing the 19-year-old in the foreseeable future, due to his impact across the pitch – especially without having to pay a fee.
With that in mind, Lee Bowyer and those at the Valley will likely be watching on to see what the summer scenario will turn out to be for Barlaser.
Meanwhile, FFC writers have discussed whether Villa should make a move for European midfield enforcer.
