A major update has emerged regarding Newcastle United and their reported interest in Paris Saint-Germain winger Neymar…
What’s the talk?
According to i News, the Magpies will not be pursuing a deal to sign the Brazilian superstar this summer, despite previous reports claiming otherwise.
The report claimed that PIF will not be seeking “Hollywood” signings in the summer as they want to bring in players who can grow alongside the club. They are seemingly looking for gems who are in the start or middle of their careers and have the potential to develop over time as the Toon progress up the table.
Howler
PIF are heading for a big howler with this claim on the £81m-rated attacker, as it will kill Newcastle fans’ dreams of seeing the Brazil forward in black and white.
We published an article explaining why the club should pursue Neymar, as it would get the supporters at St James’ Park rocking with excitement. It would also elevate the Magpies to the next level by sending out a statement to their rivals, showing that they mean business at the top end of the Premier League.
He has an incredible 330 goals and assists in 323 matches for PSG and Barcelona combined, whilst he has also proven his quality at international level with 70 goals in 116 games for Brazil. The attacker has showcased his incredible ability at the top of the game for many years, and that is why bringing him in would be a major piece of business which would be the stuff of dreams for Newcastle fans.
However, it seems that PIF are not interested in fulfilling this particular fantasy and are set to look at alternative targets heading into the summer, which will end any dreams that Toon fans may have been having about Neymar. This is why this apparent transfer decision is a big howler from the owners, as the supporters may not be happy with their thinking on this potential move.
The downside to Neymar is that he is now in his 30s and will not be a player on whom the club can rely in the long-term. However, he could be used to attract talented younger prospects to Tyneside by being the global face of the project, with players surely keen to line up alongside someone with his record in Europe. His arrival could have had long-term impact at Newcastle irrespective of how many seasons they would have been able to get out of him on the pitch.
