Rangers supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side move up to second place in the Scottish Premiership table at the weekend.
Steven Gerrard’s men went into their clash with Livingston at Ibrox having won each of their preceding two league matches, and having not tasted defeat since the reverse fixture against Gary Holt’s side back in September. And the Gers avenged that desperately disappointing loss with a routine 3-0 success on Saturday, with goals from Daniel Candeias, Alfredo Morelos, and Scott Arfield inspiring the hosts to a comfortable victory, a result which moved them up to second place in the division.
As such, there have been many thrilled Rangers fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter recently to heap praise on striker Morelos, who netted his 16th goal of the season at Ibrox at the weekend.
And many Light Blues fans are right to be lauding the efforts of the one-time Colombia international, with it plainly obvious that the 22-year-old has hit another level under the stewardship of new manager Gerrard.
Ultimately, the appointment of the Liverpool legend back in the summer was seen as a bold and ambitious call from the Gers hierarchy, what with the 38-year-old having yet to take on a senior managerial role, at the same time enjoying a playing career which was the envy of many.
And after selling Josh Windass to Wigan Athletic during the summer, the emphasis was on Colombia international Morelos to produce the goods in the final third, having done so to good effect by netting 18 times in all competitions last time round.
And the 22-year-old is well on his way to smashing that tally having already bagged 16 goals in all competitions for the Gers this term, eight of which coming in the Scottish Premiership to help the club to second place in the table, just two points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Significantly, it’s not just Morelos’ goal-scoring which has been impressive, but the Colombian ace also has nine assists to his name this season as well to underline that he is also a creator of goals – he appears to be the complete package under Gerrard.
Yes, there does remain some disciplinary issues, given he picked up yet another yellow card on Saturday, but on the whole Gerrard deserves enormous credit for getting even more out of the 22-year-old this season – that’s now six league games in a row in which he has scored.
Thus, those Rangers fans are spot on to marvel at Morelos’ brilliance this term, with manager Gerrard the one man to thank for the Colombian’s remarkable season to date.
