Rangers may have won their first Old Firm Derby at Celtic Park since 2010 on Sunday afternoon but things were far from straightforward.
As expected, moments of controversy followed the game with great regularity as Alfredo Morelos was sent off for diving before making a rather distasteful gesture towards the opposition’s supporters.
Ryan Kent was another who reacted rather controversially after scoring his goal in the first half.
Referee Kevin Clancy was at the centre of matters on the pitch but it doesn’t appear as though he earned too many fans from the Rangers camp.
Gers manager Steven Gerrard called for a strong performance from Clancy in the build-up to the game but despite the victory, his performance was anything but convincing. Rangers fans took to Twitter to berate him, with a host calling him a disgrace.
Such was the officiating on Sunday afternoon that some fans went as far as labelling Clancy as a corrupt individual. One even stated that he deserved a visit from the police.
The referee at Celtic Park brandished two reds card throughout the encounter, one to Morelos for diving in injury time while in the aftermath, he also sent Rangers first-team coach Michael Beale to the stands.
Considering the team in blue eventually went onto win, the reaction is perhaps a little surprising. After beating your rivals, supporters should be focusing on the positives and the fact they’d bridged the gap to Celtic at the top of the table. That was far from the case with certain fans, however.
Other individuals decided to focus on certain incidents within the match, specifically the handball incident for the hosts’ equaliser.
Callum McGregor lashed a shot towards goal which subsequently came off the hand of Odsonne Edouard and found the back of the net.

Clancy decided to let the goal stand even though rules state it should have been disallowed. According to IFAB, even if the ball hits a hand accidentally and finds the goal, it is an offence.
In this instance, Rangers supporters are quite right to make their feelings known. Had the goal not stood, it may well have been a more straightforward afternoon for Gerrard’s men.
