Rangers are planning to offer Alfredo Morelos a new contract and turn down some late bids from clubs in Ligue 1 for the attacker, according to the Daily Mail.
What’s the word?
Manager Steven Gerrard has made it clear that he wants Morelos to stay put, and it is understandable why.
The 22-year-old has scored 24 goals and created 10 assists in 54 matches for the Gers since moving to the club from HJK last year.
According to the Daily Mail, Rangers will try to warn off interest from other clubs by offering the young forward a new deal, but they are expecting to receive bids from Ligue 1 clubs before Friday’s deadline.
The report claims that Bordeaux remain keen on striking a deal after having their initial £3.75m plus add-ons offer rejected.
Why should keeping Morelos be a priority?
The talented striker has already scored six goals from his 10 outings in all competitions this season, and he is only going to improve.
The Colombian has age on his side and will continue to develop, therefore it is worth Rangers investing in his future.
Morelos is not the finished article and he has plenty of learning to do with regards to discipline as he has picked dup 14 yellow cards and one red in his Rangers career.
Gerrard has already recruited 12 new signings this summer and it appears that the Liverpool legend wants more to come through the welcome gates at Ibrox, but before that happens, Morelos’s future needs to be tied down.
