If you look down Liverpool’s squad list, the team-sheet is littered with stars. Names like Coutinho, Benteke and Lallana are amongst the big ones- the shirt-sellers and the players who the public pay the most to see.
But there is always a name missing – arguably one of England’s biggest stars.
Daniel Sturridge is one of Liverpool’s biggest players but there is always a problem that comes with the former Chelsea man – injuries.
He was the man who was supposed to step up and become another English idol in a famous English side. He has the touch, talent and finishing ability to transform any game, but again injuries have held him back.

Liverpool supporters have long been supportive of the forwards’ unlucky nature when it comes to being sidelined, but some are beginning to grow weary with the problem. And it is a problem.
44 goals in 72 games are fantastic stats for a striker, had they only been at the club for two seasons. Sturridge has been at Anfield for over three years, and his goal haul would be much higher had he played more games.
Sturridge has started only three league games for the Reds this season, which simply isn’t enough for a player of his calibre. Liverpool’s owners have gone to great lengths to try and unearth Sturridge’s susceptibility to injury, and he has visited some of America’s best specialists and surgeons to try and solve the problems.
Brendan Rodgers once described Sturridge as “talented, but had underlying issues”, suggesting the 26-year-old has some serious problems with his physical conditioning.
His absence may have had other negative effects on the Liverpool side too. I have little doubt that Sturridge’s continued absence from the Liverpool starting eleven could have provoked Raheem Sterling’s transfer to Manchester City.

Liverpool chiefs would have been in a much stronger position to keep hold of the young winger had Sturridge been a regular in the team and banging in the goals. They could have cited this along with the nationality connection and I’m sure that this may have played a part in the breakdown in relations between the pair.
It’s also clear that Sturridge needs to really improve his physical form. I have little doubt that injuries are constantly on the Brummie’s mind. The fear of getting injured again will be playing on his mind every time he steps on the pitch, and this will definitely affect his performances when he does come back.
But I’d love to see the former Manchester city man back in time for the Euros. He’d be a massive part of the team and alongside Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli, it’d be our best chance in years to get some success.
So I think I speak on behalf of both the Liverpool and England faithful here – please get yourself fit ASAP, Daniel…
