Neven Subotic, Morgan Schneiderlin and Petr Cech… not a bad transfer hit-list, there!
Arsenal are reportedly trailing the Dortmund, Southampton and Chelsea trio heading into the looming summer transfer window, and should they pull off such deals, then surely the Gunners would be title contenders once again next term.
But, even though the threesome are excellent players, there are other options out there worth considering. After all, Subotic is wanted by other sides, Southampton are in no desperate need to sell Schneiderlin and Jose Mourinho may do all he can to ensure Cech doesn’t join a direct rival, so lining up a few others would be wise. But who’s out there for the Londoners?
Well, we think this quintet could be worth considering…

Sami Khedira
We’ll kick off by assessing a better option than Morgan Schneiderlin… Sami Khedira. The Germany international has been linked with Arsenal on more occasions than we’d care to mention over the course of the past few months, with the Gunners believed to have been keen on him for quite some time. And it’s easy to see why, with the 27-year-old a powerful, yet elegant midfielder, capable of supporting attacks and cutting off the opposition, with a proven record – he won the World Cup last year.
And what would Arsenal need to pay for all this? Nothing, thanks to his contract being due to expire in a few months’ time.
Mats Hummels
Neven Subotic is the defender of choice in the possible triple swoop, but instead of pursuing the Serbian, Arsenal should be looking at his Dortmund team-mate, Mats Hummels.
In truth, they have been for some time, and even though a price tag of over £30m has been slapped on him, the Gunners have the cash and could well solve their defensive issues for the foreseeable future with the addition of, arguably, the best centre-back on the planet.
Marc Andre Ter-Stegen
There may not be many better options that Petr Cech between the sticks, but Marc Andre Ter-Stegen could be one!
The 22-year-old has endured a tough opening to his Barcelona career – he joined them last summer – with his playing time having been limited to cup and Champions League outings, despite his billing as one of the continent’s best young stoppers.
An excellent saver of shots, imposing, quick off his line and good with the ball at his feet, Ter-Stegen looks to be the real deal – and is on Arsenal’s radar – and with ten years on Cech, he would be a longer-term option.
Lucas Biglia
Back to the midfield issues now. While Schneiderlin offers creativity from the middle of the park, Biglia could be a better option in terms of pure passing ability.
The £18m-rated Argentine is a relatively new target for the Gunners, and despite being 29, he looks to be a potentially wise addition after an impressive spell at Lazio.
The ex-Anderlecht man could well be an upgrade on Mikel Arteta, with his desire to dictate the play from deep not dissimilar to the current Emirates Stadium star.
Aleksandar Dragovic
Austria may not be a footballing hot bed anymore, but one budding European star in the shape of Aleksandar Dragovic has emerged from the central European nation in recent times.
Current plying his trade with Dynamo Kiev, the 24-year-old is already being linked with the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger thought to be a fan of his robust playing style. Man United are also thought to be in the running, but Arsenal are more likely to be able to offer Champions League football, which could be a deal breaker.
