According to reports from 90min, Leeds United are one of several clubs that are showing an interest in Hull’s Jarrod Bowen.
Signing the Championship’s second-highest scorer would be an absolute coup for Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion-chasing outfit, and it would certainly strengthen their chances of reaching the Premier League next season.
However, the prospect of Bowen’s arrival does raise another question. How will Leeds fit the 22-year-old into their team?
If there is one area in the Whites’ squad you can’t complain about the depth in it’s on the right-wing.
Pablo Hernandez is a two-time Player of the Year winner, while Helder Costa is set to cost the club £15m next summer.
You could argue that Hernandez is coming towards the end of his career and that he needs a replacement, but United just handed him a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2022, so it’s clear that they’re not ready to put him out to pasture just yet.
However, Hernandez has found a new spot in the team in recent weeks, and he has excelled in a more central position, so it seems as if Bowen would have to get into the team ahead of the £15m man.
To be fair, you wouldn’t blame Bielsa for relegating Costa to the bench in favour of Bowen after his poor start to life at Elland Road as he’s contributed to just three goals in 20 league appearances.
In comparison, Bowen has contributed to six times as many as that this term, so it’s clear to see who the most effective option is.
Costa’s spot as a starter could be endangered if Leeds end up signing Bowen.
In other news, Leeds fans have been fuming at one Graham Smyth tweet.
